Surgery is done

Tripawds is a user-supported community. Thank you for your support!

With some misgivings, we dropped Riley off this morning for her amputation surgery.  It went fine, and she’s cruising on pain medications right now.  We expect an update this evening, and we will bring her home tomorrow.  That is when we discover if we are up to the task of taking care of her!

In some ways, it is a relief to have reached this point.  While we are both heartsick that it was necessary, at least it feels like we are moving forward.  Better days from here, I hope.

Hi, you are definitely doing the right thing, we are 1 week post amputation, and as confronting as it is, our Freddie is looking to us for care and guidance and he is doing so well. The pain of osteosarcoma is gone, so it has to be a good thing, his stitches come out next week and then the chemo starts. Good luck on your journey with Riley 🐾

Congrats on a successful surgery! There will be better days, some ups and downs.

But you are moving forward and Riley will be home tomorrow!

Getting to this day and through this day is definitely tough but I’m glad Riley sailed through! Zuko had his surgery yesterday morning and, like you, getting to this point did give me a sense of relief. I was even able to take him home that night which was great but also worried me. I wasn’t sure if I was prepared enough but nothing really prepares you for this. Just take it one day at a time!

Sending lots of love and positive vibes your way!

    Jane and Zuko ❤️

Hi, I’m new here. Not sure if i should be posting here or somewhere else, so please advise. We just took George our 11-year-old Golden Ret. in for amputation yesterday (osteosarcoma of rear left leg). The hospital is keeping him over a 2nd night cuz he wasn’t eating. We brought him his regular food and visited w/ him for about an hour. He ate all the food. I’m just super worried that he still seems so lethargic. And i also worry about his ability to get around on 3 legs cuz his other hind leg isn’t great either. But we wanted to give him a chance so we went thru w/ surgery (and it turns out he’d broken the osteo leg in the meantime!). I don’t feel at all prepared to bring him home (tomorrow probably).
